My Rig: Curve GMX + Ti

Discover a world of possibilities on two wheels

Welcome to a world of limitless possibilities, where the journey is as exhilarating as the destination, that is the Curve GMX+ Ti. The 29 inch wheels make each a potential pathway to something extraordinary. This is a world where the Curve GMX knows no bounds, where the curious mind finds solace, and where the fearless heart discovers uncharted territories.

The Curve GMX’s has a specific niche, it is the sort of off-road adventure bike where a cross/gravel bike is just not enough, but where you still want a dropped road position on a platform that is as capable as any fully rigid mountain bike. It has a wide wheel base giving stability on rough climbs. By design, the GMX places the bars so that the classic roadie positions are the main ones, where one rides mostly on the hoods but with the tops and the dropped flared bars are accessible and comfortable.
This is the bike I have chosen for the Great Divide mountain bike trip.

Curve Cycles are an Australian company giving bike enthusiasts something new and exciting. Their bikes offer functionality for the job at hand. The GMX was designed for long distance off road overlander races like the Race to the Rock, Rhino run and Silk road. Curve want you to put their bikes through the toughest of adventures. Their team are always happy to talk to you answer questions (I should know l asked plenty).

I imported mine through The Woods Cyclery Who again helped at every stage, answering yet more questions, for me this was a big purchase so felt quiet anxious buying a bike from the other side of the world. I highly recommend checking them out of you are in the market for a bike with a difference. Since purchasing my bike Woods Cyclery are now Stockists of Curve bikes.

I've always purchased mid range bikes, thinking may be one day l will be able to afford my dream bike. Now my life allows me certain luxuries and my dream bike the Curve GMX is one and taking three months off work to cycle the Great Divide is another.
I've never owned a titanium bike before, all my bikes are aluminium, 2 x gravel bikes (Giant and Ribble) and 1 x CX (Specalized). All my bikes are great and I've done many thousands of miles on them, but since having the GMX its made all my other bikes feel so inferior and I cant put my finger on why. Is it the Ti or does it just fit me better without having to change anything. Is it the 29ers or the 50cm wide handle bars. I just don't know what it is but l'm not complaining.

Fully loaded it handles really well and conquers anything that comes before it. I am really looking forward to starting the Great Divide Mountain Bike route. 2750 miles from Banff, Canada to the Mexican border at Antelope wells. Following the Rockies, Titons and ending through the New Mexico desert.

My GMX has the Curve Seek 430 flat mount carbon forks with addition of four heavily reinforced M5 mounting points per fork blade that can carry up to 7 kg each (maximum) when secured across three mounts! That's a total of 14 kg that can be safely carried on the Seek 430 FM! I picked these forks as I changed the Stock breaks from cable to hydraulic.

I went for the Curve Dirt Alloy Hoops they are 29ers and can take up to 3inch tyres. A SP Dynamo hub at the front and a DT Swiss hub at the rear. A rugged set of wheels which can take you over any terrain in any country. Gearing wise I went for 12 speed 10-52 on the rear and 32 on the front. This is just to give me a helping hand up the altitude gain in the Rockies and Titon mountain ranges.

The only thing I changed on the bike was the saddle to my favourite Ergon SMC Sport Gel saddle.

For my Dynamo lights, I went with the highly recommended K Lite lights, USB charger. The front light is the Ultra race light with Two distance lights and one wide beam and can be switched off. A rear flashing light which is always on and a USB charging unit.

A SP dynamo came with my bike otherwise l would have chosen a Son.

Bikepacking bags

I will be using mostly Restrap rear, frame and cargo bags. For the GDMBR I may swap out the front 14l bag for a 20litre Alpkit bag just for the extra space as we will be travelling in what could be both snowie/wet conditions in the mountains of Canada and the desert heat so I need to be prepared for ever eventuality.
